FIRST LOOK: Cougars fall short against Arizona in Pac-12 reunion — Sun, 27 Sep 2026 03:52:40 GMT
PULLMAN — In a now-retro Pac-12 matchup, Arizona quarterback Noah Fifita returned to the site of his first career win and orchestrated another, much more dramatic 34-24 victory over the Washington State Cougars on Saturday at Gesa Field. However, the Cats — and the Cougs — left points off the board, with Arizona overcoming two straight missed field goals to grab the lead on a three-play, 44-second touchdown drive in which Fifita found true freshman wide receiver Caleb Smith on all three plays, including the 38-yard touchdown. WSU quarterback Caden Pinnick was doomed all day by poor decisions, seemingly not clocking the safety and tossing an interception that stalled an otherwise promising first-quarter drive, then attempting to throw the ball away too late and losing a fumble in the second half. On each of those occasions, however, the WSU defense bailed him out. Junior safety Jack Bal bailed out his quarterback on the next drive, crashing a Fifita pass to secure the interception and returning it 25 yards for the touchdown to put WSU up 14-0. And a third-down stop in the second half set up the second missed Arizona field goal. The Cougar offense looked better — as far as first impressions go. WSU’s opening script was near flawless, with Pinnick hitting up Daniel Blood over the middle for a 28-yard gain on third-and-9. Two plays later, Pinnick broke loose up the left side for a game-opening touchdown. Jack Stevens kicked, Max Dean held, and the PAT gave WSU a 7-0 lead. The Cou

Hounds grind out comeback win over Bantams — Sat, 26 Sep 2026 07:20:00 GMT
PULLMAN — Clarkston quarterback Kendry Gimlin reached the top of his drop and looked left, to his running back in the flat. Greyhound defenders watching his eyes inched forward, and Gimlin shifted his eyes down the sideline and threw a strike to his receiver for the score to put his team up two touchdowns midway through the second quarter. Pullman coach Kevin Agnew said the fast Clarkston start shocked his guys. But after that moment, the Greyhounds woke up and scored 23 unanswered points to get the 23-12 win over their 2A Greater Spokane League rival Friday night at Hobbs Field. Clarkston’s two scores came in the first and second quarters on a 13-yard run from Niko AhHi and a 27-yard pass from Gimlin to Ethan White. Third quarter of opportunity Pullman’s Joshua Ratliff punched in a 4-yard score before halftime to cut the Bantams’ lead to five. Pullman (4-0, 1-0) got the ball after halftime, but on the first offensive play, a Ratliff fumble gave Clarkston the ball on Pullman’s 34-yard line. Clarkston (1-3, 1-1) worked it to the Pullman 12 and settled for a field goal but left with no points after a Pullman lineman got his fingertips on the ball, causing it to clank off the goalpost. Another Pullman turnover on the ensuing offensive possession gave Clarkston another short field. A pair of Gimlin passes set Clarkston up at the Pullman 12-yard line. But a Gimlin sack pushed the Bantams back far enough to have to punt. Pullman went three-and-out to and gave the ball right back to
