David Roth, the Democratic nominee for Idaho's U. S. Senate seat, announced Tuesday he is ending his campaign against Republican incumbent Jim Risch. Roth's withdrawal follows pressure from Ada County Democrats, who gave him a month to prove his campaign could compete. Roth raised $8,600 compared to Risch's $3.3 million and Achilles' $692,000.
Roth stated in a news release he will focus on helping Democrats win other races. His decision clears the way for Risch to face independent candidate Todd Achilles in the general election. The Senate race will now feature the incumbent against an independent who has raised significantly more than Roth.
