Freeman returns to WSU football

Washington State senior wide receiver Speedy Freeman returned to the football team for fall camp on Thursday, August 7, 2026, after sitting out most of the spring season. Freeman, who had been the team's second-leading receiver with 54 catches for 590 yards in 2025, was targeted by all three quarterbacks competing for the starting position during the first day of camp.

Coach Kirby Moore praised Freeman's progress after his spring recovery, noting he 'did a tremendous job this summer.' Freeman, a 5-foot-8, 174-pound speedster known for his 17.3-yard average punt return in 2025, said the offense 'is fast, physical, explosive and a very high-IQ.' The team will begin its season with a game against Idaho, where Thomas Ford Jr., a former Linfield University player and coach, is now the head coach.
