Lewiston Bengals host Coeur d'Alene Vikings

PREP NOTES: It's CDA week: Bengal football hosts Coeur d'Alene Vikings — Wed, 23 Sep 2026 07:45:00 GMT
PREP NOTES They may not be in the same league anymore, but the over century-long rivalry between the Lewiston Bengals and Coeur d’Alene Vikings high school football teams still matters. “They are absolutely one of our bigger rivals. This game means a lot to both programs,” said Lewiston coach Zane Hobart, who himself played for Bengal football in the late 2000s. “CDA week always has an asterisk on the schedule. You know you’re going to get a really good football team. Just a battle, just a war.” The Bengals will host the Vikings at 7 p.m. Friday at Lewiston High School’s state-of-the-art P1FCU Sports Complex. Lewiston is the top vote-getter not in the top 5 (so effectively No. 6) in the Class 5A Idaho State Media Poll, for which the Lewiston Tribune is a voting member. Coeur d’Alene is No. 2 in the Class 6A poll. The Bengals enter a now nonleague bout with the upper-division Vikings with a 3-2 record, fresh off a 28-20 loss to Skyline of Sammamish, Wash., last Friday five hours west. Over a month into the season, Lewiston’s identity is that of a good defensive football team and an offense that has “shown flashes of being really good at times,” but has to clean up mistakes, Hobart said. Lewiston’s defense may be even better this week. Back for the Bengals is senior defensive lineman Parker Bagley, a Boise State commit. The Bengal offense has hummed its best when the ball is in junior wide receiver DJ Wilkerson’s hands. Wilkerson had nine catches for about 160 yards at Skyline,

Alex Pribble has made a noticeable difference for the University of Idaho men’s basketball team. Last year, for the first time in 36 years, Idaho made the NCAA Tournament. On Tuesday, Pribble and the school agreed to a three-year contract extension that will see him as the headman for the program through the 2030-31 season. “I am honored to continue as the men’s basketball coach here at the University of Idaho,” Pribble said in an Idaho press release. “I’d like to thank President Scott Green and Athletic Director Terry Gawlik for their belief in our staff, and for the support that they have provided throughout this process.” In the Vandals’ historic 2025-26 season, Idaho went 21-15 for its first 20-win season since 2018. Idaho went on to win the Big Sky Conference Tournament championship as the seventh seed, winning four games in five days and beating Montana in the title game 77-66. It was the Vandals’ first title since 1990. In 2026, Idaho broke the program record for the most made 3-pointers in a season for the second year in a row, and posted the second-highest scoring average in the program’s 120-year history. The Vandals also led the Big Sky in defensive rebounds and finished fifth in the country in defensive-rebound rates, while ranking top-70 in the nation in allowed 2-point percentage. Under Pribble, individual accolades have also stood out. Last season, Jackson Rasmussen won the 2025-26 Big Sky Freshman of the Year award, leading the team with 14.1 points per game w
