A 36-year-old Moscow man died after a head-on collision on U. S. Highway 95 near Viola, Idaho, on Friday evening, Aug. 7, 2026.
According to an Idaho State Police news release, the man was driving a Kia Rio northbound when it crossed left of center and collided head-on with a southbound Honda Accord driven by a 19-year-old Palouse woman. The 36-year-old succumbed to injuries at the hospital, while the 19-year-old was hospitalized. Both lanes of the highway were closed for about three hours following the crash reported at 8 p.m. The Latah County Sheriff’s Office, Moscow Fire Department, and Idaho Transportation Department assisted in the response. The crash remains under investigation.
Two other incidents were reported on Highway 95 that same evening, including a separate crash near Riggins where a 74-year-old man’s vehicle went into the Salmon River.
